The Dalian Ascendas IT Park is located at the gateway to the Dalian’s Silicon Valley, a 15 km software industrial belt ear-marked by the government to spearhead further growth and development of city’s software industry. Our task was to revisit the masterplan for the IT park, re-think the organisation of buildings, landscape and amenities to attract a broader tenant base. We were also commissioned to design two multi-tenanted office buildings (MTB 3 and MTB 4) within the masterplan.
We proposed three scenarios to improve the masterplan. The preferred scenario proposed a network of crossing paths to re-connect the cluster of MTB 1, 2 and 3 on the northern edge of the site with MTB 4 on the southern edge. The sequences of public spaces and the realignment of the contours and levels around MTB 3 establishes an attractive setting allure for people moving to and from the adjacent train station.
We proposed that in the future, MTB 5 could be a mirror of MTB 4 with ground floor changes to accommodate the different topographical constraints. All amenities are re-organised into a new, hill-side Central Park with food courts, sports areas and event plazas. Ramps, steps and terraces create local points of interest in the landscape with views to the sea and mountains.
